Despite this potential, underrepresented groups-women, Indigenous communities, ethnic minorities, and regional populations-continue to face systemic barriers. Black and Latino founders in the U.S. received only 1% and 1.5% of total venture capital funding in 2022, respectively, despite often outperforming expectations when given the opportunity. Imagine the possibilities if these communities had equitable access to resources and funding.
We are the 10% Foundation, dedicated to solving social challenges by empowering underrepresented communities through digital transformation. Our mission is to foster an inclusive ecosystem where innovation and collaboration thrive.
Our founder, Chamara Somaratne, began by offering pro-bono support to entrepreneurs, helping them navigate business strategy and digital transformation. Realising the widespread need, he formalised this effort into the 10% Foundation, with a vision to bridge gaps in access to technology and resources for disadvantaged groups.
We believe that when 10% of the population has access to digital opportunities, it can drive widespread societal change. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide by providing underrepresented groups with resources, mentorship, and digital skills training. By doing so, we aim to inspire innovation, empower communities, and create lasting impact.
Our belief is based on a paper from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, which found that when just 10% of a population holds an unshakable belief, it becomes the tipping point for adoption by the majority, influencing societal change.
